Trainers share the spoils at rescheduled race meeting
Five trainers tasted success at Buchanan Park on Saturday.
Honours were shared among trainers and jockeys at Saturday’s Mount Isa race meeting, which was moved to Buchanan Park after the Julia Creek track was deemed unsuitable for racing following heavy rain.
Two Julia Creek trainers had wins – Kerry Krogh and Tanya Parry – while Richmond’s Shryn Royes and Mount Isa’s Denise Ballard and Peter Inwood also tasted victory.
Krogh kicked off the day with maiden winner Wagonga ($2.30), who had to pull out all stops to get over the line with Nor Yadi in the saddle.
The 12-start maiden was able to pull clear in the final 50 metres to beat outsider Quinstep Girl by three-quarters of a length.
It was Parry’s turn in the next as she produced the trifecta with the first three runners across the line in the Benchmark 55 (1200m).
Chaseton ($6) was an easy victory as apprentice jockey Mel Campbell guided the in-form galloper to a 3.2-length win.
Amanda Thomson rode the first of her two winners when she piloted the Royes-prepared favourite Miss Kitty ($2.50) to victory in the Benchmark 45 Handicap (1100m).
She then backed it up aboard The Last Crusade ($2.50) for Inwood in the Benchmark 50 (1450m).
Ballard had the last winner, however you can read all about that on Page 30.
There is no racing in the North West this weekend, with the final race meeting of the year at Mount Isa on Saturday, November 30.
