Let's Get Enrolled program targets Mount Isa families
An expo is being staged ahead of the return to school in 2025.
From free haircuts to lucky door prizes and back to school resources – there is a wide range of goodies on offer today to entice local families to enrol their children ahead of the first day of the school calendar.
More than 30 education and health service providers across the city are expected to host stalls at the Isa Community – Let’s Get Enrolled Expo, which will be held between 10am and 2pm today (Thursday) at Buchanan Park Entertainment Centre.
With the health and welfare of children crucial to ensuring they are engaged at school and have the best opportunity for learning and advancement, the expo is a local initiative to kick off the 2025 school year on the right foot by capitalising on the improving coordination efforts led by the Queensland Government Educational Precincts.
Ngukuthati Children and Family Centre manager Willanna Morris, who is among those spearheading the expo, said collecting more exact student numbers prior to the commencement of the school year would improve the ability of educators to ensure their classrooms were resourced appropriately.
“We hope to see lots of families all gathered at the event and asking questions and getting the information they need ahead of the school year,” she said.
“The most important information we will be gathering is: ‘are your children enrolled?
“If they are not yet enrolled there will be ushers assisting them over to a service that can help ask some key questions about ‘what are the barriers?’ and ‘how can we assist you?’
“The families that are already enrolled will have the opportunity to walk around and engage with all of our friendly services with information, activities or entertainment to find out more about what is in our community.”
“There is going to be a lot of relevant service providers all gathered in one place – so if there are any gaps in the education or social services being provided across the city then we will be able to collect that data as well and work to address it.
“It is also an opportunity for all the participating groups to network with each other and improve those communication channels and see the work each other does.”
